About Us
Get in the Swing is run by Lindy Hop dance teachers Paul & Debbie Jackson, who have been teaching Lindy Hop & 1920’s Charleston since 2001 at Steeple Morden Village Hall based near Royston, then in 2013 they set up a second class at the Hunter Club in Bury St Edmunds, but soon found the hall too small. After only a year they moved to Risby Village Hall, Just outside Bury St Edmunds.
They both started dancing in 1993, but from different backgrounds in dance, Debbie took the Ballroom & Latin route with her gold medals in both & 3 years on the Salsa dance scene, meet Paul along the way at Modern Jive. Paul started in Modern Jive, then started learning Lindy Hop in 1995 & found himself travelling for lessons all over the place. Paul was keen for a dance partner so introduced Debbie to Lindy Hop in 1998.They got married in July 2000 having a swing wedding & the rest is history!
Keen to share their passion for dance, they go everywhere social dancing & encourage their class members to join them, therefore supporting many other dance clubs, as well as holding many dance nights themselves like “The Rhythm Joint” a monthly event at Newmarket & “Sugar Town Strut” Spring & Autumn dances at Risby, with some really great Swing, Jazz & 40’s/50’s Rhythm & Blues Bands.
As the classes has grown in popularity it’s full of fun loving dancers who enjoy the social side of Lindy Hop & love to go out every weekend dancing as well as coming to classes for a challenge! Paul & Debbie are great ambassadors to keeping music live & love to go to summer music festivals & band gigs of every kind.
Paul has become a Swing DJ which was more by default than choice. As this enabled him to be in total control of the music played at their own events, he now has a good set up & a huge range of music to keep everyone dancing!
Lindy Hop is an evolving dance so to keep up to date with the dance they go to several swing camps a year to learn new things from world class teachers. They also teach workshops themselves at various other events including Jump Jive ‘n’ Boogie weekends in Bournemouth, Party’s, Balls, Hanger Dances & The Twinwood Festival. Having a passion for dancing to live Traditional Jazz Bands, they also teach 1920’s Partnered Charleston as the dance of the Jazz era.
